Join the circle. Fight the crisis. See a golden tomorrow.

Together, let's connect with the environment!

OVERVIEW

The project CURE aims to provide a three-phase workshop to aspiring QC youth influencers. The first phase is composed of a two-day virtual workshop and seminar on responsible and effective social media content management and creation for the youth ages 17-24 years old in selected Barangays in Quezon City. The second phase will bring about the participative element of the program, encouraging the workshop to be co-led by the first phase completers. The last phase would entail replication– through this, completers of the first and second phases acquire the chance to disseminate the program to neighboring barangays.

Background

The inspiration for project CURE stems from the two premises that we envision when combined will produce a massive benefit not just in Quezon City, Philippines, but to the world: the climate crisis and the human resource of the Philippines in terms of social media use.

According to the Country Climate and Development Report 2022, climate change in the Philippines will continue and accelerate. In an interview with CNN Philippines (Aug 2022), Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte admitted, "I believe the fact that climate initiatives are among the top agenda items of our administration since 2019 when I first became mayor and is already an explicit and implicit declaration that a climate emergency exists. Otherwise, why would we have put it among our city's top priorities?"

On the one hand, in a study conducted by the Pew Research Center, 94% of Filipino youths 18-29 years old were found to use the internet, at least occasionally, or use a smartphone. Furthermore, when the respondents were asked to rank the media sources, the internet/social media emerged to be the topmost preferred source of information.

VISION

Project CURE aspires to become a leading global action for climate change mitigation, introducing a sustainable framework for social media influencers, and contributing to the generational fight against the climate crisis.

WORKSHOP CONTENT

The workshops spearheaded by the project CURE are divided into two major branches, Climate Change Workshop and Influencer Workshop. As this project aims to produce social media influencers that advocate climate mitigation, it is vital that they are equipped with adequate and factual information on the aforementioned areas to better position themselves in the media environment.

Collaboration Canvas

To secure the efficient and widescale delivery of the project's objectives, the CURE Team drafted their Collaboration Canvas targeted for Public Sector Partnerships. The Collaboration Canvas covers the Vision & Mission of the project, goals, identified partners, value proposition, the structure and timeline of the event, the risks, enumeration of resources, and impact. It is designed to introduce the project to the public sector in such a way that enables strong synergies, promoting a beneficial and fruitful partnership.

HIGHLIGHTS

In the quest to provide a sustainable and effective program, the CURE team, with assistance from the Quezon City Futures Lab, decided to hold consultative meetings with educational institutions like Miriam College and the Department of Education-Quezon City, on November 25, and 29, 2022 respectively. Fruitful discussions ensued in the meetings covering several areas to improve, strengthen, and materialize the delivery of the project's vision.
